Why Should You Consider a Breast Implant Removal?
Those with breast implants can sometimes experience dissatisfaction with their implants over time. If you are uncertain about your implants or want to address those complications, you may want to consider a breast implant removal with or without replacement.
What is a Breast Implant Removal?
A breast implant removal is a surgical procedure in which a breast implant is removed or replaced after a previous breast augmentation or breast reconstruction surgery. If your implant is removed but you still desire breasts with an aesthetic outcome after removal without replacement of implants, Dr. Fichadia can perform a breast lift with or without possible fat grafting as an alternative. This removal can be done for several medical or aesthetic reasons. Three of the most common reasons include:
Change Your Body’s Silhouette
If you have had a breast implant but still feel uncomfortable about your breast size, a breast implant replacement may help you achieve your desired look. Breast implants come in all kinds of sizes so that they can be easily customized to each patient’s desired look. A larger or smaller-sized implant can replace the old one to help you achieve the ideal breast size.
Treat Capsular Contracture
A few complications can occur after getting a breast implant in place. One of the most common complications addressed with implant removal is capsular contracture, which occurs when the scar tissue around the implant becomes hardened. This can cause the affected breast to become hard or develop an unusual shape along with breast tenderness, something that if not improved with medication management, can be resolved with a capsulectomy (removal of capsule) and breast implant with or without replacement of breast implants.
Address an Implant Rupture
If your implant ruptures, the material inside the implant will start to leak into the capsule cavity and can cause shape changes. These ruptures can be difficult to detect but if you notice that you are starting to lose volume in your breasts, you may want to schedule an appointment with Dr. Fichadia for evaluation.
